Review

As a practicing physiatrist at a large metropolitan medical center and UCLA/VA PM&R assistant professor, it is imperative to keep abreast of new and updated information in the field of rehabilitation medicine. Dr. Mitra’s comprehensive book on rehabilitation is a great addition to my library--filled with a comprehensive list of pertinent topics to our field. The chapter on Stroke Rehabilitation by was especially helpful-- clearly written and supported by excellent images, graphs, and tables that makes complex information much more easily understood. Also, the inclusion of the topics of pain, complementary & integrative health approaches in rehabilitation, sexual dysfunction in patients with disabilities, rehabilitation of the organ transplant patient, were excellent chapters to review in these important areas of rehabilitation services. As a physiatrist who works for the VA, I was especially pleased to find that Dr. Mitra had included a chapter on the rehabilitation care of our nation’s Veterans, as there are areas that are of important emphasis within this patient population. I highly recommend this book for residents who are currently in study and for practicing physiatrists to supplement their library for an excellent resource at their fingertips. I appreciate Dr. Mitra’s dedication to our field and the efforts and time that has been committed to produce such an excellent resource by he and his colleagues. M. Saber, MD
